The enforcement division of the Sheriff's Office consists of several subdivisions, each responsible for a specific task within the Sheriff's Department. The patrol division of the Potter County Sheriff's Office is comprised of three shifts, each shift consisting of one Sergeant, one Corporal, and six deputies. One deputy on each shift is also designated as the field ID deputy, whose primary duty is processing and follow-up of crime scene evidence collection, preserving crime scenes with photos and videos, and working with the Criminal Investigation Division investigators to obtain successful prosecution. The Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor is utilized as the primary patrol vehicle of the Sheriff's Office fleet. It is widely used in the law enforcement community and is known for its quick acceleration and excellent handling. The Police Interceptor version of the Crown Victoria is a special order vehicle, and is not available to the general public. |

The Ford F-150 is utilized by Patrol Sergeants, Patrol Corporals, and field deputies. It allows for greater storage space than the Crown Victoria, and is also better suited for the off-road, rugged conditions that exist in the rural areas of Potter County. |

WARRANTS/EXTRADITIONS DIVISION The warrants/extraditions division consists of seven Deputies, one Corporal, and one Sergeant. The primary responsibility of the warrants deputy is locating persons having outstanding misdemeanor and felony warrants, transporting those subject to the Potter County Detention Center, and locating persons wanted on warrants from outside agencies. CIVIL PROCESS DIVISION The Civil Process division consists of one Sergeant and two deputies. This division is responsible for service of papers on all civil-related matters, including divorces, notices of eviction, notices of lawsuits, and executions of writs of attachments. CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION The Criminal Investigations Division consists of four Sergeants, one Corporal, two Deputies and two civilian secretaries. The primary function of the division is the prevention of crime, the apprehension and prosecution of criminal offenders, and the recovery of stolen property. This includes but is not limited to assaults, burglaries, forgeries, thefts, arsons, and drug related offenses. The Special Crimes Unit is a multi-agency unit dealing primarily in homicide investigations, officer-involved shootings, infant deaths, suspicious deaths, and fire deaths. The unit is a cooperative effort between the Amarillo Police Department, the Potter County Sheriff's Office, the Potter County District Attorney's Office and the Randall County District Attorney's Office. There are currently two Potter County Sheriff's Office employees assigned to the Special Crimes Unit, consisting of one Sergeant and one Corporal. Gary Trupe The primary task of Courthouse Security is to maintain order within the County Courthouse buildings. This can include such duties as handling disruptions within the buildings, performing bailiff duties for the Justice of the Peace Courts, or providing additional security in any courtroom in which it may be required. Courthouse Security is also centrally located in the Old Courthouse on the first floor to aid citizens in finding the proper place they need to go for County functions. Consisting of 12 floors, the Santa Fe Security handles any problems that may occur and also serves as public relations and information specialist between the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Potter County. For questions regarding the Santa Fe Security, please contact: Deputy Parker The Mission of Training and Personnel is to hire well-qualified applicants for Sheriff’s Office employment, provide those new employees training that exceeds state standards for licensing, and provide experienced officers with in-service training that exceeds state standards. Our goals are to have all our jail academy students pass the licensing exam on the first attempt; to have all students pass all areas of the TCLEOSE examination, and to provide an average of 80 hours of training to all officers every two years. Jeff Turnbill The Records division of the Sheriff’s Office is comprised of one sergeant and six civilian clerks. The chief responsibilities of this division include the processing and management of all Potter County arrest records, criminal arrest warrants, and incident photos. In addition to an archive of over 128,000 inmate records, this division also serves as the central location for all warrants issued by the District, County, and JP courts. Sgt. Lisa Dawson Dispatch personnel are often referred to as the "Lifeline of Patrol". They provide radio communications for information but also have a myriad of other responsibilities. These include answering incoming phone calls, handling 911 emergencies, and entry of warrants and stolen property information into both the State and Federal databases.
