APPLICANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be 21 years of age on or before completion of first year of employment.
  • U.S. citizen and a resident of the contiguous United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a comprehensive background investigation. Consideration will be given for military or overseas assignments.
  • Pass all phases of the applicant testing process.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
  • No more than three (3) moving violations within a twelve (12) month period preceding the date of application.
  • No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions. No class B misdemeanor convictions within the past ten (10) years preceding the date of application.
  • Previous military personnel must not have been convicted of any court martial higher than a summary. Applicants with previous military service must submit a copy of their DD214 report of separation. Note that a dishonorable discharge will be an automatic disqualification for employment.
  • Stable credit history.
  • Must provide a copy of driver's license, social security card, and certified copy of birth certificate.
  • ATTACHMENTS AND RELEASE FORMS MUST BE NOTARIZED WHERE SPECIFIED BEFORE RETURN. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN APPLICATION BEING REJECTED FOR FURTHER CONSIDERATION.
  • FAILURE TO PROPERLY COMPLETE ALL AREAS OF APPLICATION WILL RESULT IN REJECTION OF APPLICATION.
PHYSICAL AGILITY REQUIREMENTS
All applicants must successfully complete the following physical agility course:
  • Run a zig-zag course
  • Walk a balance beam
  • Climb stairs to a platform, descend the stairs on opposite side.
  • Run one-quarter mile.
  • Complete the aforementioned tasks (1 through 4) in 6 minutes and 30 seconds or less.

CIVILIAN EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

For those interested in a civilian career with the Potter County Sheriff's Office , the above "Applicant Requirements" are applicable. Civilian applicants are not required to participate in the Physical Agility portion of the process. While not hiring at all times, we do have needs for those with dispatch, secretarial and clerical skills to meet the needs of the Sheriff's Office.
