The Academy is a twelve week program designed to familiarize residents/participants of Potter County with goals, objectives, organizational structure, and general operating procedures of the Potter County Sheriff’s Office.
Its objective is to build a better understanding between citizens and the Sheriff’s Office through education and communication and to promote good will and community support. The instructors are supervisors, deputies, and personnel from the Sheriff’s Office who teach in their own areas of expertise. Each instructor has years of training and experience in the subject they will instruct. All personnel bring street experience and expertise to the classroom. There is no fee for participation in the Citizen’s Academy.
For twelve weeks, classes will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The adult academy is in the spring and the high school is held in the fall. There are a total of 12 classes with 1 of those being held on a Saturday. Extracurricular activities may also be involved on weekends. An example of that would be the firearms training and patrol ride along sections.
