FUEL THEFT

Primarily due to the current rise in fuel cost there have been an increasing number of thefts involving various motor fuels including unleaded and diesel. The number of "Gas Drive Offs" has increased as well as theft of fuel from vehicles.

On 10/12/05 a report was made in reference to the theft of approximately 300 gallons of diesel from the trucks of a sand and gravel business west of Amarillo . At today's prices this would be approximately $900.00 worth of fuel.

In order to transport this amount of fuel from a business a large tank mounted on a pickup or six 55 gallon barrels would be necessary to contain the fuel. Siphoning this amount would be time consuming therefore a hand operated or portable electric pump may have been used.
